eyjrThe Mets decided not to offer a contract to outfielder Eric Young, Jr. for next season, effectively making him a free agent.

Young served as a pretty average fill-in outfielder for the team after coming over in a trade with the Rockies, but began to see decreased playing time as eventual Golden Glove outfielder Juan Lagares earned his full-time spot and several call-up outfielders like Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Matt denDekker showed some promise.

While he definitely performed better than other outfielders on the team with the last name Young, it isn’t so surprising the team decided to go in a different direction for next season.
